Winter Beauty Must Haves

Winter for me (in the northeast at least) means dry skin, dry hair, just all over dry, dry, dry… Here are my beauty must-haves to help you get through this cold, dark and dry season!

  1. Silk Scrunchies - I solely use Slip Silk Scrunchies to tie my hair back.  Designed to be gentle on hair and help you avoid creases, I find they help avoid additional breakage by not adding tension or gripping my hair too tight.  Their medium size (Slip Medium Slipsilk™ Scrunchies) is my favorite since I find the larger stretches far too much (and then won’t stay on my wrist).  Some other great options include, Brooklinen Small Silk Scrunchies and Blissy Scrunchies.

  2. Hydrating Face Masks - Sure, I moisturize everyday but during the winter with my heat blasting, my apartment is so beyond dry that no humidifier seems to help.  So in an effort to make my skin as hydrated as possible, I like to use a hydrating mask 1-2x a week.  My current Favorite is the Eve Lom Moisture Mask).  I like to wear it for 30-45 min once a week but you can also wear it as an overnight mask.  (I find it to be a bit too glossy to wear to sleep but could work if you wear a thinner layer!)   Some other great options include, Laneige Water Sleeping Mask, Tata Harper Hydrating Floral Mask, Drunk Elephant F-Balm™ Electrolyte Waterfacial Mask

  3. Hand Cream - With all the excessive hand washing we’ve adopted, my hands are taking a beating.  To keep my skin moisturized and soft, I keep my Aesop (Aesop Resurrection Aromatique Hand Balm) at arm's length all day, everyday.  Some others I love include, Dr. Barbara Sturm Super Anti-Aging Hand Cream, Byredo Gypsy Water Hand Cream, and Davines OI Hand Balm.

  4. Heavier Face Cream - For the winter months I switched from a lighter weight moisturizer (I used Drunk Elephant Protini™ Polypeptide Moisturizer in the summer) to Sunday Riley ICE Ceramide Moisturizing Cream which has ceramides to help form the skin’s natural moisture barrier.  Some other good options include Glossier’s Priming Moisturizer Rich and Biossance Squalane + Omega Repair Cream.

  5. Thick + Creamy Body Creams - After every shower (I unfortunately love scalding hot showers which deplete my skin of any moisture) I load up on one of my favorite body lotions.  I’m currently rotating between Lush Dream Cream, Dr. Barbara Sturm Anti Aging Body Cream, and One Love Organics Botanical C Body Oil but also love using trusty drug store lotion Eucerin

  6. Hair Masks - Last but not least, I like to give my hair some extra mask love as well. I like to use a mix of in-shower and out of the shower treatments. The 3 top ones I rotate on a weekly basis include, Christophe Robin Regenerating Hair Mask with Prickly Pear Seed Oil (which smells heavenly and I swap in for my normal conditioner once a week), Davines The Renaissance Circle Mask (love this for a deeper condition), and Olaplex No. 3 Hair Perfector (I use this outside of the shower and like to keep it in for a few hours before rinsing out and conditioning). I’ve also used and loved Amika Soulfood Nourishing Mask, and Kerastase Nutritive Mask for Dry Thick Hair which are both thick and nourishing in-shower masks.
