Over Wearing Sweats? Here are my Top SS ‘21 Trends

After a year of wearing the same sweats day in and day out, I’m excited to hopefully wear some trends this Spring Summer season that do not involve fleece and stretchy waistbands...  Looking through Vogue Runway brought me back to my fashion editorial days so I thought why not do a round up.

So without further adieu, here are my favorite fashion trends for Spring Summer 2021:

Slouchy trousers

Idk about you, but I don’t think I could go from a year full of lounge wear directly into anything tight restricting so I love this comfortable yet stylish in between.  Dress' em up or down, these slouchy pants (anything from chino to suiting) have been around for a few seasons now and are worth investing in.  Khaki in particular is having a major moment right now - it’s a perfect tone for Spring (and obvs a andsometimesbeige fave).

Dad’s Denim

As with the slouchy trousers, big, baggy denim is also here to stay - as the Gen Zers say, skinny jeans are out.  I love balancing a larger bottom with a more fitted top so cue the next trend which would be a perfect pair.

Bra Tops

Crop tops are back and more bra-like than ever.  I love how this trend spans from the casual sports bra to more elevated matching set looks.  I’m excited to pair a sporty crop with a blazer or oversized denim jacket

Bare Backs

Warm weather is obviously all about skin, so bare backs are another trend I am all in on.  Whether it’s in the form of a top or a dress, a bare back is a subtle way to show skin (and stay cool).

Oversized Toppers

From XL button downs to boyfriend blazers, this oversize trend is a nice transition from our oversized hoodies to a top of more substance (just as the slouchy trousers is our bridge from sweats to actual pants).  I love a menswear inspired look and will definitely be wearing an oversized button down with a great pair of denim or a pair cutoffs.

Micro Minis

As with the crops and bare backs, showing more and more skin is inevitable this time of year.  As everyone begins to emerge from their homes and back into a vaccinated world, expect to see more and more leg.  I’m excited to swap out denim cutoff for minis every once in a while.

Puffy Shoulders

The puffy shirt is no longer a Seinfeld thing, these romantic sleeves will be on everything from tops to dresses to jackets.  I love how simple tops automatically become more polished and feminie with this trend.  I think the puffy sleeve will become the new “going out top.”

Leather Shorts

I remember leather (and faux leather) shorts being huge in the early 2010s, and I’m so mad I finally caved and sold my old pairs last summer.  I’m especially excited about pairs with an athleisure twist.  I love this Celine look making a statement with 2 of my top trends.

Knits Knits Knits

Knitwear is here to stay!  I’m so excited I can continue to wear my matching knit sets - these have been apart of my loungewear uniform for the past year and yet I still want to take out into the world with me.

Honorable mentions:

These may not be my bread and butter style but I love the look of them and you can expect to see them popping up this season.  Who knows if I’m feeling #sometimesbold one day maybe I’ll give them a try!

Windbreakers

I love athleisure look but wouldn’t typically sport a windbreaker on a grocery store run… but this trend may just change that for me.  Time to go look at Nike.com…..

Hot Pink

This is definitely out of my comfort zone but is such a fun pop.  You can either go big or go home with a full tonal look or pair with a neutral bottom like this Gucci look.

Big Florals

I do love a floral dress in the summer -- Reformation and Réalisation Par sundresses are staples in my summer wardrobe.  Seemingly always on trend this time of year, I do like how these are larger than life this time around!
